In the summer 2020 issue of Nieman Reports, I chronicle the New Black Press. These are Black-owned media outlets or vehicles of Black expression that tell stories mainstream media won’t tell.  I take a solutions journalism approach that shows how these outlets authentically cover issues of concern to the diverse people who comprise the Black community.

The TMZ headline “1,000 People Attend Chicago House Party During Coronavirus Pandemic” was worrisome to Tiffany Walden, editor-in-chief of The TRiiBE, a digital outlet that aims to reshape the narrative about Black Chicago.
